SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES

Engage with children in activities that foster learning, creativity, and teamwork while ensuring their safety and well-being across various settings such as classrooms, outdoor spaces, and play areas. You will support social development by encouraging positive interactions, communication, and conflict resolution, while also modeling these behaviors for the children. Assisting with daily routines, including snack time, rest time, and transitions between activities, is also an important responsibility. Additionally, you will collaborate with program staff to create a structured, welcoming, and inclusive environment. Flexibility is key as you may need to adapt to different classrooms, age groups, and learning styles as required.

 

KIDS PLACE LOCATIONS:

Before & After School Care (Grades K-5) – Available at Aquila, Peter Hobart, PSI, and Susan Lindgren.

Full-Day Preschool (Ages 33 months – 5 years) – Located at Central.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

As a Kids Place Child Care Substitute, you will:

• Ensure Safety and engagement; supervise and interact with children to create a safe, fun, and inclusive environment.
• Support Daily Routines; help with meals, bathroom needs, naptime, and transitions between activities.
• Encourage social and emotional growth; guide positive interactions, conflict resolution, and cooperative play.
• Assist with activities by leading small groups, playing games, and supporting learning experiences, including awake room sessions and table learning activities.
• Assist children with dressing for seasonal activities (e.g., applying sunscreen, preparing swimwear, putting on outdoor gear).
• Maintain a clean and organized space; help with light cleaning, setting up activities, and keeping areas tidy.
• Collaborate with staff; work closely with educators and supervisors to support program needs and goals and.
• Stay Informed and trained; attend ongoing training sessions to enhance your skills.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

• Knowledge of practices, techniques, and fundamentals of child care programming and services, teaching principles, techniques, and procedures.
• Knowledge of child development theories and development stages and needs.
• Knowledge of District academic curriculum requirements.
• Knowledge of relevant laws, rules, regulations, or guidelines pertaining to childcare programs, operations, and safety requirements.
• Knowledge of Kid’s Place program operational policies and procedures of the District.
• Knowledge of behavioral management practices and fundamentals.
• Oral and written communication skills.
• Supervising groups of children in accordance with behavioral guidelines and rules to ensure an appropriate environment and the safety of participants and staff.
• Planning and implementing site activities in accordance with program themes, field trips, and academic subject activities.
• Implementing behavioral management practices.
• Dealing with children, staff, parents, administrators, and building personnel concerning issues and activities.
• Interactions require explaining program operational rules and working with others to gain cooperation and an understanding of educational issues/needs.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: 

• High School Diploma or GED- Experience none
• First Aid and CPR Certification preferred 
• Over the age of 18- Required.
